Lucky Magazine: Gwyneth Paltrow’s Hairstylist Tells Us How To Copy Her Sleek Signature Look
When Gwyneth Paltrow announced that she and celebrity hairstylist David Babaii were partnering with Blo Blow Dry Bar, we had one wish: that a Paltrow-inspired look would be added to the salon’s menu of styles.
The hair gods must have been listening, because yesterday the salon released a rendering of “The Gwyneth” (above), a flowy, straight style that will be available at Blo Blow Dry Bar locations beginning in November.
Because we’re way too excited to wait a whole month to try it, we asked Babaii to walk us through how to achieve the “swing straight” style at home. Read on for his tips!
“First, spray a light mist of thermal protectant from the mid-shaft to the ends prior to blow drying. Next, section the hair—top, sides, crown and nape—to ensure total control during the blow drying process. (Babaii recommends using a professional grade blow dryer with a nozzle attachment that ensures the right temperature flow and causes less heat damage.)
Beginning at the nape, place a large round brush directly at the root to lift and dry. When the root area is dry, smooth the rest of the hair straight while giving the ends a slight bend.
When the entire head is dry, part hair down the middle and flat iron the pieces around the face and top layer to tame flyaways and to ensure a smooth silhouette and sleek finish. To complete the look, use a light hold hair spray and lightly brush through the hair so it moves and swings.”
