How Long Does a Blowout Really Last? (And Tips to Make It Last Even Longer)

Nothing beats the confidence boost of walking out of Blo with fresh, shiny, and picture-perfect hair. But the big question everyone asks is: how long will it actually last? (because we all know I can’t make my hair look that good on my own).

The good news- with the right care and products, your blowout can look salon quality for days, so let us break it down for you.

The Average Lifespan of a Blowout
Typically, a professional blowout can last around 3-5 days, but this can differ depending on your hair type and texture. While fine hair tends to get oily faster, thick and textured hair can hold volume and shape for a bit longer.

Tips to Make Your blowout Last Longer
If you want to get the most bang for your buck out of your salon visit, a few simple habits can keep your hair looking fresh, bouncy, and fabulous for days.

Protect your hair while you sleep

Switch to silk, babe.
Trade your cotton pillowcase for a silk or satin one — we love the Kitsch satin pillowcases. They’re super gentle on your hair, which means less friction, less frizz, and your blowout actually stays sleek while you sleep. Beauty rest, but make it productive.

Try the “pineapple” method.
Before bed, loosely gather your hair into a high ponytail or bun using a silk scrunchie. It keeps your volume lifted at the crown and stops those annoying flat spots from forming overnight.

Wrap it up.
If you really want to wake up with that just-left-the-salon look, pop on a silk bonnet or wrap your hair in a cute silk scarf. It keeps everything smooth, shiny, and perfectly in place while you get your beauty sleep.

Maintain Your Style During the Day

A little daytime maintenance can seriously extend the life of your blowout.

Use dry shampoo early.
Don’t wait until your hair looks oily. A light spray of dry shampoo on day two helps absorb oils before they build up, keeping your roots fresh and bouncy for longer.

Hands off.
We all do it, but constantly touching your hair transfers oils from your hands straight to your strands. The less you play with it, the longer it stays clean and voluminous.

Always wear a shower cap.
Steam and humidity are basically the worst enemies of a good blowout. A cute shower cap will keep moisture away so your style stays smooth and frizz-free.

Refresh strategically.
By day three or four, give your hair a quick refresh instead of restyling everything. Use a blow dryer on low heat to lift the roots, or touch up a few pieces with a curling iron to bring the style back to life. A little goes a long way.

Be Smart With Products

When it comes to making your blowout last, less really is more. The goal is to keep your hair light, bouncy, and fresh — not weighed down with too many products.

Skip heavy creams and serums.
Super thick products can make your hair greasy faster and flatten all that volume your stylist worked so hard to create. Stick to lightweight formulas that smooth without the buildup.

Choose a lightweight dry shampoo.
A good dry shampoo is your best friend between washes. It absorbs oil and refreshes your roots so your blowout lasts days longer. One of our go-tos is Olaplex No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo — it helps absorb oil while keeping hair feeling clean and lightweight.

Use hair oil sparingly.
If your ends start looking a little dry, smooth a tiny drop of oil through the ends — never the roots. We love UNITE U:OIL, a lightweight argan-infused oil that adds shine, smooths frizz and even helps reduce blow-dry time while protecting from heat.
Bonus: it also comes in a blonde-friendly version designed to keep lighter hair tones bright while adding the same glossy finish.

The key is using just enough product to refresh and protect your style — without undoing the volume and movement of your blowout

Don’t Let Workouts Ruin Your Blowout

Good news: you don’t have to skip the gym just to keep your blowout looking cute. A few small tricks can help your style survive even the sweatiest workouts.

Wear a sweat-wicking headband.
This helps absorb moisture around your hairline (aka where sweat shows up first). It keeps those front pieces from getting damp and frizzy mid-workout.

Apply dry shampoo before your workout.
A little dry shampoo at the roots beforehand helps absorb sweat as it happens. It’s basically a pre-emptive refresh that keeps your hair from looking oily afterward.

Blow-dry your roots immediately after.
If your roots get slightly damp, don’t let them air dry. A quick blast with a blow dryer on low heat can bring the volume back and save the style before it falls flat.

Pro tip: pull your hair into a loose high bun while you work out — our fave is a Kitsch satin scrunchie! They come in so many cute colors and styles, and the silky material helps preserve your volume, prevent creases, and keep your blowout looking fresh even after the sweatiest workout.

When It’s Finally Time to Wash

Even the best blowout has an expiration date, so don’t fight it!

If your hair starts looking oily, losing its shape, or feeling dry and frizzy, it’s a sign it’s time for a wash—usually around day 5 or 6.

But until then? Sit back and enjoy that gorgeous volume, glossy shine, and all the extra time you saved by skipping wash day. Your hair (and your mornings) will thank you.
