With award season coming to a close, it’s time to take a walk down memory lane and review our top hair and makeup moments from the red carpet. From the Grammy’s to the SAG Awards, our favourite musicians, models, and movie stars strutted down the runway in the best hair and makeup looks money can buy- and they did not disappoint.
Without further ado, here are our top hair and makeup moments that stole the show:
Zendaya – Screen Actors Guild Awards
Zendaya never misses a beat- ever. I mean seriously, we can’t think of one time she didn’t crush it on the carpet. The Euphoria star showcased that Old Hollywood glam still deserves a seat at the table – with a dramatic side part and soft curls showing off her beautiful side profile. Though her glam may look muted, the rosy hue of her blush and eyeshadow ties perfectly into her pink Valentino gown. While she may not have won an award, she won our vote for the best look of the night- maybe even year. To sum it up, she SLAYED 👏
Amanda Seyfried – Screen Actors Guild Awards
Amanda Seyfried’s look has us all belting out “Hey mama, welcome to the 60’s” from the hit Broadway musical Hairspray. I mean come on, we have to love a musical named after our favorite retail product, duh! Seyfried looked like a ’60s glam princess in her Mod mini dress, with the hairstyle to match. Her ponytail is raising the VOLUME and making us all want to rock this retro look. Chef’s kiss 🤌
Kacey Musgraves – Grammys
Bubblegum pink, feathers, Valentino, sculpted bun – those are just a few of our favorite things and Kacey Musgraves brought all of it to the 2023 Grammys red carpet, cue the applause. 2023 has proven to be the year of the updo, and celebrity hairstylist, Giovanni Delgado, wanted to play on that trend. “For the carpet, we decided to do something modern and effortless,” Delgado tells TZR. “The inspiration was sculptural shapes from artists like Constantin Brâncuși.” Delgado revealed that he used some of our favorite UNITE products to prep her hair, including 7SECONDS Detangler and Blowout Creme. Known for her “retro” flare, Delgado left Musgrave’s curtain bangs out of the updo to play into her signature style.
Doja Cat – Grammys
If there is one thing Doja Cat knows, it’s how to stand out from a crowd. While she didn’t cover herself in 30,000 Swarovski crystals this time, she still delivered editorial glam with bleached brows and a sharp siren eye. Doja’s punk look took us back to 90’s rave culture, where the eyebrows were thin and the eyeliner was BOLD. Doja’s makeup artist, Ernesto Casillas, was inspired by the warm tones of her dress and “decided to play the eyes up with shimmering, contrasting colours.” He gave her a “beautiful, luminous complexion with a hint of glow.”
Cara Delevingne – Oscars
Cara Delevingne was undoubtedly one of the best dressed of the night – bringing old Hollywood glamour to the Oscar’s red carpet. Delevingne was reportedly paid over $240,000 to wear Bulgari jewels to the event, but her jewels weren’t the only thing shining bright like a diamond. While Delevingne typically leans towards more menswear-inspired looks, she gave us an understated yet alluring, pink-toned smokey eye for the ultra-feminine vibe. Paired with a swept-back low bun, Delevingne kept her hair slicked back and off her face to showcase makeup artist, Hung Vanngo’s masterpiece.
Kendall Jenner – Vanity Fair Oscar Afterparty
Kendall Jenner took a note from big sister Kim’s book, as she channeled her inner Kardashian at the Vanity Fair Oscar party. Dubbed the “Barbie updo” by celebrity stylist, Chris Appleton – we are simply OBSESSED with this look. Inspired by 90s Pam Anderson, Kim Kardashian has been serving up this look on repeat all over her Instagram- and we’re not surprised her little sister followed in her footsteps. The face-framing pieces softened Kendall’s features, making her look sultry and sweet in her vintage Jean Paul Gaultier mermaid gown.
Vanessa Hudgens -Vanity Fair Oscar Afterparty
If hosting the Oscar’s pre-show wasn’t enough, Vanessa Hudgens SERVED us with a wet-look hairstyle at the Vanity Fair afterparty. While most girls were busy looking at her ex-boo Austin Butler, we couldn’t take our eyes off this ultra-modern and sexy look. Hudgens rocked a slicked-back bun, with face-framing pieces completely styled in place, cascading down her face. She’s giving “fresh out the water” realness, and it’s an absolute slay.
Huge cheers to all the amazing women and men who strutted their stuff on the red carpet this award season. May next year bring on even more inspiring talent, incredible entertainment, and gorgeous fashion for all! We can’t wait to see what trends next season will bring.
