Congratulations on your big day! Have you thought about what you need to prepare for a Bridal Hair and or Makeup Appointment? Most Bridal consultations are booked for one hour and our team has put together some tips on how to get the most out of your appointment time.
Hair and makeup consultations are an important part of the planning process. Without having an initial consultation, it would be tough for a stylist to understand what look you are trying to achieve. It also gives your stylist the ability to get familiar with your hair type, skin (for makeup), and all the other important nuances that play into your wedding day. We are here to make you shine!
See below for expert tips from Blo Blow Dry Bar’s Director of Artist Education, Becca Raziuddin.
How to Prepare for your Hair Consultation
- For the best results wash your hair a day before your appointment and arrive with your hair clean and blown out smooth. This is recommended whether you’re wearing your hair in an updo or down. No need to use any styling products or hot tools. If you are using your natural curl pattern, come with your curls styled as you would on a normal day.
- Don’t want to blow dry your own hair? Book a blow out the day before and request that no products be used (tip: you can still use a heat protectant, such as a leave-in conditioner or detangler).
- Are you looking to add volume, length, or dimension to your hair with extensions? If you are bringing your own clip-in extensions, be sure they are clean and dry. If you would like a consult and color match for extensions, be sure to book this alongside your hair consultation. In order to ensure we have the best color match for the hair extensions, please ensure your hair is freshly colored before your consultation. PS. Did you know that Blo offers complimentary consultations for hair extensions?
- Wear a shirt or dress that can be easily removed without interfering with your hairstyle
- If possible, choose a neckline that is similar to your bridal outfit. This will allow you to get a better idea of the overall look.
- If you have any jewelry or accessories you would like to wear, please bring them in for your consult.
- The more inspiration the better! Come prepared with a few photos to show your stylist
- If you are unsure about your final look (i.e., Do I want my hair in a ponytail, or do I want it all down with a Hollywood wave?) You can always book multiple consultation appointments to try out different looks.
How to Prepare for your Makeup Consultation
For the best results follow the below prep before your makeup appointment:
- Gently exfoliate and moisturize the night prior
- Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer the morning of the appointment.
- Arrive at your appointment with no makeup on your face.
- If you have lash extensions, be sure they are refreshed before your appointment, and bring any product you use specifically for them. I.e., mascara, eyeliner.
- Wear a shirt or dress that can easily be removed without interfering with your makeup
- Similar to your hair consultant, inspiration pics are important! Come prepared with a few photos to show your stylist
- If you are planning on getting both makeup and hair services done for your wedding day, please note you should be booking two consultations. One for hair and a second one for makeup.
If you follow our tips, you are guaranteed to have a successful appointment. Another fun idea, try to book your consultation before a big event such as engagement photos or a bridal shower. That way you can see how your hair and makeup photographs, and decide if you want to change anything for your wedding day. Most importantly, it ensures that the fabulous hair and/or makeup from your appointment doesn’t go to waste!
Best Wishes!
